how much of the rights do we retain to our song when we enter? ie: would we be able to put our remix on our own releases if we were to put a different vocal track on top?
I must have copyright to the song in order to release it. I would not have copyright to the song if you used it again and put a different vocal on it, just the remix that you submit to Miyamoto Music. If you wanted to release a different vocal at some time I'd probably put a time clause in the contract so I'd have a couple of months to sell the Miyamoto remix track before you could use it again.
the time clause idea sounds BRILLIANT. I have no problem at all giving up a track for up to six months at all, it's just that I'd never sign off a song for life aaaaaaaand I'm really proud of what I've got right now for this remix contest.
